Be it culinary experiments or pop culture love children, we're fans of a good old mashup here on ShortList.com - the practice of taking two familiar subjects and give them a new lease of spliced-up life.
So you can imagine our delight at stumbling across this latest mix: Thomas Kole's superb mix of Valve's 1998 shooter Half-Life and Devolver Digital's blood-drenched Hotline Miami of 2012.
Better still - it's playable. And free.
Armed with the gravity gun of Half-Life 2, the game takes the top-down, bloody visual themes of Miami and sets players off on Gordon Freeman's familiar mission to other throw the sinster Combine.
Check out the deliciously retro trailer below, and engage in some sci-fi madness by downloading Kole's creation here.

As Content Director of Shortlist, Marc likes nothing more than to compile endless lists of an evening by candlelight. He started out life as a movie writer for numerous (now defunct) magazines and soon found himself online - editing a gaggle of gadget sites, including TechRadar, Digital Camera World and Tom's Guide UK. At Shortlist you'll find him mostly writing about movies and tech, so no change there then.
