Xbox One reveals dashboard

Remote controls? They're so last generation. Physically exerting yourself to press a button? What century are you from!?

After a few leaks and sneak peeks, Microsoft have officially unveiled the multitasking, Winows 8-ish dashboard of the Xbox One.

In order to show off the various voice control and multiple-plate-spinning tricks the Xbox One can carry out, the following demo appears to be controlled by a chap with the attention span of a goldfish. Using the Kinect's voice commands, you can queue up films, join friends in online chat, jump into active games and (to the frustration of all your team mates) jump straight out again to watch some TV you recorded. Then you can Skype your pal, before rudely hanging up on him.

The demo emphasises Microsoft's vision that their latest console isn't just about gaming, but hopes to be the ultimate entertainment system. Will these super slick functions convince gamers to spend more on the Xbox One, or will the 'simpler' PlayStation 4 score the bigger hit? The answer is mere weeks away.

Xbox One arrives in the UK 22 November
