Volkswagen GTI ROADSTER

We thought we knew where we stood with racing games: exotic dream vehicles, the exclusive fare of rock stars and footballers, digitalised for the masses. But now Volkswagen have caused us to question everything by creating a car for a video game and then building it for real. Madness.

This hunched beast is the GTI Roadster Vision Gran Turismo - a car originally designed for the virtual world of Sony's Gran Turismo 6 as part of the series' 15th anniversary celebrations.

As there were no real-world production costs or shareholders to consider with the initial video game design, the VW designers were able to build the most elaborate GTI concept they'd ever conceived. They were so thrilled with their work that they decided to bring the monster to metalic-life as a glorious design concept.

Taking some cues from the iconic Golf GTI, the GTI Roadster boasts a 3.0-litre twin-turbocharged V6, that will fling Gran Turismo 6 racers (and anyone fortunate enough to drive the concept car) from 0-60 in 3.5 seconds. Shown off in the flesh at this week's Wörthersee motor festival, gamers will be able to download the GTI from June.
