Vince Vaughn Joins True Detective Season Two

Grab a can of Lone Star and take a load off – it looks as if another True Detective case has been solved...

Just days after word of Colin Farrell starring in season two of the HBO drama, Vince Vaughn has become the latest long-rumoured actor to sign on.

Vaughn isn’t playing a ‘good guy’ though; he’s playing Frank Semyon, a career criminal in danger of losing his empire when his move into legitimate enterprise is upended by the murder of a close associate.

Neither, it seems, is Farrell, whose detective Ray Velcoro will be torn between his employers in a corrupt police department and the crime kingpin who owns him, suggesting similar themes to when Woody Harrelson and Matthew McConaughey so vehemently blurred the lines between ‘heroes’ and ‘villains’ last time around.

Taking the mantle from director Cary Joji Fukunaga, Justin Lin (Fast Five, Fast & Furious) will be in the hot seat for the first two of eight-episodes in the hour-long drama, and, given his admittedly petrol-soaked CV, should be more than adequate at transferring some cinematic sheen to the small screen.

Though we have to say we're most intrigued by the involvement of Vaughn. Normally a funny-man, we have a good feeling about his role, which could harness his darker side in a way we haven’t witnessed since, say, Gus Van Sant’s remake of Psycho.
