Despite its long outdoorsy heritage, childhood Scouts meetings were mainly excuses to play football and trade Pokemon cards outside the jurisdiction of watchful teachers.
A few rope knots here, a few camping trips there (but not too far over there - well within driving distance of paranoid parents), but no real wilderness experience or know-how.
Which is a damn shame, because not only are survival skills badass, but they can ultimately prove life-saving.
