School of Rock was a feelgood smash hit, featuring a cast of actually-talented-in-real-life young musicians, and a tour de force from leading man Jack Black, clearly revelling in a role that was practically written for him.
Indulging his love of rock 'n' roll and comedy, the film had both in spades, telling the story of an ageing rocker kicked out of his own band, who accidentally falls into teaching. It took $131m at the box office and also achieved the rare feat of featuring rock gods Led Zeppelin on the soundtrack; the band notoriously don't allow their music to be used for commercial purposes, but made an exception after a video featuring Jack Black and a crowd begging them for permission was sent directly to them.
