The Mummy was an unexpected success story; having started life as a low-budget horror update of the classic Mummy series, it eventually received a larger budget and a grander scale of production. It was a move that paid off handsomely as the film grossed over $400m, with a sequel - the equally successful The Mummy Returns - being commissioned on the morning of release of the first movie.
Seven years passed before the trilogy was completed with the release of The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor, featuring a change of setting, but no change in the result, with another box office success.

As Content Director of Shortlist, Marc likes nothing more than to compile endless lists of an evening by candlelight. He started out life as a movie writer for numerous (now defunct) magazines and soon found himself online - editing a gaggle of gadget sites, including TechRadar, Digital Camera World and Tom's Guide UK. At Shortlist you'll find him mostly writing about movies and tech, so no change there then.
