Who? Shura
What’s the story? We've been fans of Shura for a while now, with the brilliant 2Shy nestling its way into our top 50 tracks of last year. As well as the gorgeous production, what lured us in was the complete, open honesty of the lyrics - content that anyone who's ever suffered from self-doubt and insecurity could immediately identify with. Now, ahead of the release of her debut album, Nothing's Real, which comes out in July, she's revealed her best track yet. What's It Gonna Be? taps into that same lyrical theme - "I don't wanna give you give up/I don't wanna let you love somebody else but me/So what's it gonna be?" - but marries it with a driving, electronic musical backdrop, with a glorious, aching tinge of melancholy throughout. Is this the best sadbanger since Robyn's Dancing On My Own? It could well be, and it doesn't get much better than that.
For fans of: Robyn, Cyndi Lauper, Tegan and Sara
In three words: Aching melancholic pop
