There are certain clothing items every sartorially switched on gent should own: one of these being a Mackintosh coat and/or jacket. Not only an enduring classic, it’s the first thing we reach for when the elements take a turn for the worse.
So, it’s with an overwhelming whoop and an appreciative holler that we applaud the news that Mackintosh is to open its first stand-alone flagship store in London on January 20.
Located in the exclusive environs of Mayfair on Mount Street, the store will house Mackintosh’s heritage designs and its current autumn/winter collection, plus this year’s spring/summer lines. It will also play host to a number of high profile collaborative projects, the first of which is the limited edition Kitsuné collaboration.
The store has been conceived by acclaimed retail designers Wonderwall (the talent behind Uniqlo’s flagship stores and the redesign of the iconic Colette shop in Paris) and is almost worth a visit alone. That’s an emphasis on almost, mind. Nothing can beat those coats.

As Content Director of Shortlist, Marc likes nothing more than to compile endless lists of an evening by candlelight. He started out life as a movie writer for numerous (now defunct) magazines and soon found himself online - editing a gaggle of gadget sites, including TechRadar, Digital Camera World and Tom's Guide UK. At Shortlist you'll find him mostly writing about movies and tech, so no change there then.
