It turns out size might matter after all.
A prominent Apple analyst (and soothsayer of previous iPhone products) has suggested that the new iPhone 7 Plus will incorporate a dual-camera system - capable of taking incredibly detailed photos and even feature optical zoom.
Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo believes that the larger model of Apple's next flagship phone will incorporate the technology of LinX, an Israeli camera startup that Apple bought for $20 million last year. The larger smartphone would have the necessary room and battery bulk to incorporate the cameras, while the smaller iPhone 7 would stick with a less powerful camera.
Two lenses would sit side-by-side on the rear of the iPhone 7 Plus: while other smartphones have used this feature to create 3D images, the LinX technology uses complex algorithms to combine two images for a greater impression of depth, and improve image quality under low lighting.
The technology can also be used to create 3D scans of surroundings, which could lead app developers to create a range of interesting augmented experiences: fancy building a 3D model of your own face?
