You could well say that a £23,000 watch is expensive. But when it's inspired by a car worth £26m, perhaps it's a bargain.
Ralph Lauren is creating six new Automotive timepieces for 2015, inspired by the legendary 1938 Bugatti Type 57SC Atlantic Coupe, with the first of those, the RL Automotive Skeleton, being unveiled a few days ago.
It features an open-worked, hand-wound RL1967 movement, steel and brass gear elements, black oxidised hands, a large balance, a black shot-blasted stainless steel case, together with a varnished bezel made from amboyna burl bezel, which exhibits detailed swirling grain patterns - a common favourite in high-end car interiors.
They're available now via Ralph Lauren; alternatively you could buy an actual car, although it would be tricky to wear that on your wrist.
