Just take a second to let this image sink in.
What you’re looking at is a brown snake that appears to have tried to eat a black snake. The black snake was apparently having absolutely none of it and such decided to eat its way out of the larger snake.
Why? Because nature is fucking terrifying.
The picture was taken by Geoff Mitchell in Griffith, New South Wales (it really couldn’t have been anywhere other than Australia…) after he spotted the gory serpents on the side of the road.
We assume he also probably prodded it with a stick. Geoff said:
“I tried to research it on the internet and it seems quite common for brown snakes to eat black snakes but I have seen none where one snake has punched a hole through another.”
Snakes experts the world over agree. It’s pretty weird.
