*Gasps* Give us a minute... we're just a little excited... phew... by the arrival... of Shoe Gallery's celebratory creation for the Reebok Pump's... urgh... 25th anniversary. Has anyone seen an inhaler?
Should you have failed to pick up on our unsubtle hint, the inspiration behind this special edition Pump is most unconventional. Drawing on the notion that the trainer supplies a basketball player with a layer of play-improving air cushioning, the Miami-based retailer's collaboration looks to draw inspiration from an inhaler - essential equipment for asthmatic athletes also in need of a dose of "air".
The red leather and suede of the shoe's substantial construction have been coloured in stark red, playing on the colouring of many medical inhalers. The structure colours have also been tweaked to suggest the shape of the respiratory aid, with grey accents on the Pump and heel counter hinting at the metal components of said device. A stitched message on the tongue pulls the whole concept together, "Need air?" playing on both the asthmatic and court themes.
