Historically, rock stars aren’t known for their gastronomic sophistication. Not hugely surprising when you consider their mythical diet of Jack Daniel’s, meticulously separated M&Ms and, in Ozzy Osbourne’s case, the odd freshly severed bat’s head.
But a new book — featuring this exclusive unseen picture of Noel Gallagher below — is hoping to tackle tradition by enlisting musicians to share their favourite food and drink.
Compiled by photographer Patrice De Villiers, with interviews executed by journalist Andrew Harrison, Love Music, Love Food gathers more than 60 stars to talk about their culinary obsessions over 240 belly-rumbling pages, and there’s a high-calibre line-up giving us an insight into their tastes. They include Biffy Clyro (haggis, unsurprisingly), Roger Daltrey (trout), Kasabian (offal), Tinie Tempah (seafood linguine, pictured above) and Brian May (grapefruit, pictured above).
But it’s Gallagher, singing the praises of his beloved Yorkshire Tea, who proves the best value, when he aims a few jibes at Paul Weller’s tea-making: “[It] leaves a lot to be desired. Pretty watery and the colour’s not right.”
Compiled to help raise awareness for the Teenage Cancer Trust, and with a themed recipe, courtesy of Sarah Muir, accompanying each celebrity interview, it’s a commendable and strangely compelling book affording the rare opportunity to see former hell-raisers extol the virtues of a well-brewed cuppa. And people say rock’n’roll isn’t what it used to be...
Love Music, Love Food is published on 5 September; lovemusiclovefood.orgTo buy the book head to the Teenage Cancer Trust website.
