It’s fair to say that owls get a bad rep. Not only do they get labelled with being self-important and smug, they also have to contend with the fact that even on the big screen they’re considered puffed-up know-it-alls. To top it off, they're the subject of ridicule on one of our favourite tumblrs, HungoverOwls.com
Spare a thought then for the owl which left this imprint (above) on a window after crashing smack-bang in the middle of it. The snap was taken by Sally Arnold who spotted the outline upon returning from holiday. According to the RSPB the marks on the glass were left by a powdery substance which helps to protect new feathers. Although, if you ask us the tell-tale white powder suggests there are other reasons why our feathered friend was caught off-guard.
Luckily, the bird is not thought to have been badly hurt but we imagine he wandered off shame-faced hoping none of his tawny-owl buddies had noticed, his dignity no longer intact.
