Like all great metropolises New York comes alive at night – hey, it’s not called the city that never sleeps for nothing.
That’s why we were so taken with these evocative images of The Big Apple after sundown. Taken by native New York photographer Evan Joseph, they not only capture the vast, breath-taking sweep of the city, and, in particular, Manhattan, but they’re also affectionate and human portraits of a place Joseph knows intimately.
The pictures are also testament to Joseph’s skills and daredevil attitude. The skyline shots are taken as he hangs out of a helicopter with only a homemade stabilisation device for assistance.
Impressed? The shots are collected together in a classic coffee table tome, New York City at Night: A Tour of the City That Never Sleeps.
Now, it’s about time we returned to the city of De Niro, the Yankees, Blondie and hip hop again…
