While theme parks are typically known as places of intense, unbridled pleasure, there's also something undeniably creepy about them.

Realising this untapped potential, Stephen King has decided to set his new book right in the middle of one. Hard Case Crime, an imprint of Titan Books, has just announced that King's latest thriller Joyland will be released in June 2013.

The book takes place in 1973 and will follow a college student who spends his summer working at a theme park in North Carolina. While there, he “confronts the legacy of a vicious murder, the fate of a dying child, and the ways both will change his life forever,” the publisher said in a press release.

It's been described as a "whodunit" and "a story about growing up and growing old" by Charles Ardai, the Hard Case Crime editor.

Due to King's affection for the subject matter, he also revealed that it's going to be an old-fashioned release. "I also loved the paperbacks I grew up with as a kid, and for that reason, we’re going to hold off on e-publishing this one for the time being," he stated. "Joyland will be coming out in paperback, and folks who want to read it will have to buy the actual book."
