$3.9 billion. That's how much the films of Adam Sandler have grossed around the world. So own up - someone has to be watching them. Netflix knows who you are, and believes there are enough of you to warrant signing a deal with the New York actor to make four films.
Following the recent announcement of a deal that will see the sequel toCrouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon premiere on the streaming service at the same time it hits US IMAX cinemas, the TV-disrupting giant has issued a statement outlining a deal it's signed with Sandler's Happy Madison Productions to create four feature-length films to premiere exclusively on its streaming service.
Sandler will produce and star in each of the projects, with the first arriving as early as 2015. While the news of four more Sandler comedies might not fill your world with mirth, Netflix is confident the deal will bring in viewers, reporting that he's among a small number of actors whose movies consistently rank among the most-viewed by subscribers in the US and in other its other regions, ranging from Brazil to the UK.
Speaking in a prepared statement, Sandler's reaction to the deal will probably ensure you don't go anywhere near any of the forthcoming projects: "When these fine people came to me with an offer to make four movies for them, I immediately said 'yes' for one reason and one reason only… Netflix rhymes with 'wet chicks'! Let the streaming begin!"
