Genius. Totally illegal and prison-worthy, but genius, nonetheless.
If you're tired of staring at your WhatsApp messages through that shattered glass screen of yours, but don't want to fork out for a brand-new iPhone, then all you need to get your mitts on a snazzy new handset is a premium quality blue t-shirt and a pair of big cojones (and to be cool with the notion of serving some major time at Her Majesty's pleasure).
At the start of June, two men strolled in and out of Apple's New York store with a whopping 19 iPhones, thanks to some pretty daring dressing up. One of the duo - still uncaught - donned the guise of Apple's blue-shirted brainiacs, or Geniuses as they prefer to be called, and made off with $16,000 of gear.
It was that simple.
It's a robbery that's not likely to get a big-screen adaptation any time soon. In fact, the police report reveals how easy the theft was:
“The thief 'dressed similarly' to store employees — who usually wear blue T-shirts imprinted with an Apple logo — and walked right into an electronics repair room at about 5:30 p.m. on 1 June. The man grabbed 19 iPhones from a drawer inside the room, worth a total of $16,130, then handed them over to another thief. That man hid the phones under his shirt, and the pair walked out of the store.”
What? No high-speed getaway? No explosions? No drilling into a massive vault? Booooring.
