Lucy Liu to play Watson

Sherlock gets lucky

Lucy Liu to play Watson

Despite the BBC and Warner Brothers both breathing life back into the Sherlock Holmes legacy, US TV network CBS believe there's still something to gain from yet another interpretation.

A couple of weeks ago, it was announced that Jonny Lee Miller would be taking on the lead role in the upcoming show called Elementary and now, Lucy Liu has been cast as his sidekick.

Taking a revisionist look at the classic tale, the Charlie's Angels star will be playing a character called Joan Watson (get it?!) who will join Holmes in New York to solve crimes and that. Her character will be an ex-surgeon who has lost her medical licence after a patient died.

According to the Daily Mail, the BBC are keen to spot for any similarities with their updated version.

Sherlock producer Sue Vertue said: "We have been in touch with CBS and informed them that we will be looking at their finished pilot very closely for any infringement of our rights."

What do you think? Is Lucy Liu a good choice?
