There’s another guy who's gone even further than the Bristol piano man

As grand gestures go, this will take some beating

There’s another guy who's gone even further than the Bristol piano man

If we’ve learned one thing in the last couple of weeks, it’s that men will stop at nothing to try to win over ex-girlfriends.

Luke Howard, also known as ‘the Bristol piano man’, sat playing piano in the city in an effort to get his former partner to get back together with him, until he ended up being punched by a stranger.

Howard eventually gave up on his mission amid plenty of criticism, saying the reaction “turned it very quickly into something that would cause the one person I didn’t want to hurt embarrassment and pain”.

But when it comes to grand gestures, one man has gone much, much further…and with greater success.

A Russian man, known only as Alexander, had been with girlfriend Elena for about a year before their relationship ended.

He knew a simple hours-long piano tribute wouldn’t cut it, though, so he did what anyone else would do in the situation.

Sorry, let’s try that again, he did what no one else would do in the situation.

He got into a van, which was suspended by a crane so he could serenade Elena from outside her window on her 29th birthday, with MetroNews reporting that he presented her with flowers perfume and a postcard.

That’s clearly just child’s play, though, and Alexander wasn’t going to stop at that.

He also had a saxophonist waiting below, playing Elena’s favourite song: ‘Dream On’ by Aerosmith.

As you can probably guess from the fact that we’re writing about it, his efforts went a whole lot better than those of his Bristol counterpart.

Elena, who lives in Biysk, Siberia, told MetroNews that Alexander had surprised her with gifts and notes in the past, but it was the first time he had done anything like this.

It worked, though, and the Russian press reports that the pair are back together. Not just that, but Alexander has told media in Biysk – as translated by the BBC – that he plans to propose.

What’s one up from a van?
