Johnny Depp goes on bizarre rant about assassinating Donald Trump at Glastonbury

I used to really like Johnny Depp – Edward Scissorhands is one of my favourite films – but after the domestic abuse issue with Amber Heard you can’t really justify being a fan anymore.

Before the public turned on him, though, he was still thought of pretty much universally as a bit weird. He’s strange. He’s peculiar. Peculiar old Johnny Depp.

And he is doing nothing to dispel public opinion with his latest appearance this week, at Glastonbury Festival of all places. He was introducing a showing of his 2004 film The Libertine, in which I assume he plays some sort of drunk pirate or something, and he made a predictably odd speech.

In it, he essentially alluded to assassinating Donald Trump, which drew cheers from the crowd, who all inexplicably like Johnny Depp, for some reason. Anyway, here’s the video:

“When was the last time an actor assassinated a president?” says Johnny, either deliberately and tastelessly alluding to John Wilkes Booth shooting Abe Lincoln, or just accidentally and tastelessly referencing it. Is he saying he wants to do it?

“I want to clarify, I am not an actor. I lie for a living. However, it has been a while and maybe it is time.”

Oh, maybe he is. He’s probably going to get in a bit of trouble for this, no? Kathy Griffin did for a picture of her and a bloodied Trump mask, so actively suggesting you’re going to kill the president in front of loads of people is probably going to evoke some sort of ire from The Orange One.

I mean, of course I don’t care, because I’m not at Glastonbury and the onslaught of news and social media posts from people who are is exasperating in the extreme. So, Christ, Johnny, say what you want, I’m blocking all future Glasto news from my lobe – get yourself in trouble, get a detention, wear a hat, I am minus interested.
