A good rule of thumb for BASE jumping: hurl yourself off the tallest structure possible.
Not only will a loftier launch pad give you a considerably better chance of keeping all your teeth intact, it also looks pretty good for the camera too - as the daredevils in this excellent new video can attest.
The building? The Princess Tower, soaring some 414m over Dubai Marina and currently the world’s tallest residential only building. The participants? A hearty bunch of extreme thriller seekers invited by SkydiveDubai and Xdubai to take part in a limited series of jumps. And what jumps.
Opening with some architectural money-shots of the glistening skyscrapers and honeysuckle shoreline, the 4K video swoops from the tops of the skyscrapers down to the harbor, it looks like your average upmarket holiday ad, until that plucky bunch emerges from the roofing to hurl themselves off it. From there, the mavericks are soon making all sorts of interlinked movements in tandem, as if someone asked Tom Daley to coach a synchronised swimming team.
