Given the chance, your cat would shoot you in the blink of an eye. But being as it was a Blue Gascony Basset Hound who shot his owner's hand, we're putting it down to overzealousness.
The 55-year-old owner, a French hunter, has told how he had to have his hand amputated after his "adorable" dog Rene jumped on him for a cuddle, setting his shotgun off.
The bullet shattered his right hand and he had to be taken by helicopter from St Michel de Double to a hospital in Bordeaux, where doctors were unable to save the limb.
The owner told France Bleu radio he did not blame the animal. "It wasn't the dog's fault," he said. "And he's adorable! I should have left the (gun's) safety on, that's all."
