"Argh. Gurgh. Blargh." Shuffle, shuffle - shotgun blast to the face.
This was the standard soundtrack of Resident Evil games past - a band of woefully prepared heroes taking on wave after wave of zombie foe, battling their way through dimly lit corridors to a sweat-inducing boss battle.
Resident Evil: Umbrella Corps isn't like your previous RE outings (don't mention Operation Racoon City - it doesn't count).
Rather than pitting you against brain-eating infected, Umbrella Corps is a multiplayer shooter that sees the franchise's zombies gain a tactical edge. You face off against other players in teams of highly armed squads - crouching around tight corridors, looking to nail your opponent with a bullet to the face.
So far, so Call of Duty. The key difference is that the multiplayer maps are filled with the undead, who won't pay you the blindest bit of notice so long as your 'jammer' is working - a device that suppresses your human scent and stops the zombies from nibbling your limbs. You can thus hide your movements in a pack of zombies, luring in an enemy team before taking out their jammers and turning them into zombie stew.
Set to arrive on PlayStation 4 and PCs in early 2016, we're keeping our fingers crossed Umbrella Corps lives up (or dies down?) to the RE legacy.
