Don't worry - we're not going to try and get you excited about pixels, wax lyrical over frame rates or wave a flag in the name of texture shading.
All we've got is a video that shows off the polished muscles of a new computer program. So far so boring, but it's this clever number-crunching, hardware-pushing program that's going to be powering some of your gaming escapes in the coming years - and it looks astonishing.
Demoed at the Microsoft's developer event Build 2015, the stage talk illustrates the potential of the DirectX 12 program, powering a glorious, larger-than-life build of Square Enix's upcoming Final Fantasy 15. Hair looks like... well, real hair. Skin shifts with unsettling realism and the lighting is just... you get the idea.
Have a flick through the video below. We've come a long way since Space Invaders.

As Content Director of Shortlist, Marc likes nothing more than to compile endless lists of an evening by candlelight. He started out life as a movie writer for numerous (now defunct) magazines and soon found himself online - editing a gaggle of gadget sites, including TechRadar, Digital Camera World and Tom's Guide UK. At Shortlist you'll find him mostly writing about movies and tech, so no change there then.
