The Bard may have died nearly 400 years ago, but it seems his stories are still as relevant as ever.
US network Fox has picked up the rights to a new project, America's Son, which is loosely based on one of Shakespeare's most famous plays, Hamlet.
The show will be to be a political thriller-meets-soap, set in Washington DC, and is written by Paul Redford (The West Wing/Dirty Sexy Money). Steven Spielberg's Amblin TV is set to produce.
The plot will feature a Kennedy-style political family and the show will kick off with a suspicious death of the presidential hopeful. When his son investigates the 'accident' and attempts to find the truth, he uncovers more than he bargained for, as secrets and skeletons in the closet are revealed.
This won't be the only Shakespeare-themed show to hit the air in the near future: ABC have picked up Westside, a show based on musical West Side Story - itself based on Romeo & Juliet. Time will tell who will win the battle of the Bard.
