Halo: Spartan Assault announced for Windows 8

Microsoft fans, drag your eyes away from Xbox One news for one moment - Halo is going mobile.

Halo: Spartan Assault will be a top-down arcade style shooter for Windows 8 devices. With your left thumb controlling your player's movement and your right controlling your aim, tapping your pocket-friendly screen will allow you to lob a grenade, jump into a Warthog or change weapon.

Mobile gamers will soon be able to run amok in new, unexplored regions of the game's universe, battling the Covenant and marvelling at just how pretty everything looks. Have a glance at the trailer and game shots and you'll see it looks like heaps of fun.

Developed by 343 Industries and Vanguard Games, you'll also be able to unlock additional treats for Halo 4 and Halo Waypoint. We've a feeling the morning commute is about to get a lot more fraggy.
