To paraphrase the great Manuel Calavera, "You can't hide from the Grim Reaper. Especially when he's been remastered".

Apparently bereft of new ideas, the minds behind one of the finest games of 1998 have tweaked and polished an aged classic in a bid to introduce it to a new generation of HD-obsessed gamers. And rightly so - despite being 17 years old, LucasArts' Grim Fandango is a funnier, slicker experience than the majority of modern adventure games.

Set in the Land of the Dead (with an Aztec flavour), Grim Fandango follows the story of undead travel agent Manuel "Manny" Calavera. Unsatisfied with his position in the afterlife, Manny sees a chance to change his fate in a bid to save the virtuous soul of recently deceased Mercedes "Meche" Colomar.

Stuffed full of wit, gags and puzzles, the point-and-click marvel has been redrawn with crisp HD lines, a live orchestral soundtrack and a coffin-load of special features. A commercial flop on launch, this is a remake that deserves your attention.

Grim Fandango Remastered is out on Windows, Mac, Linux, PS4 and Vita
