What is it about really old black-and-white photographs that makes them look so foreboding? Oh yeah, that’s right, the people photographed are never smiling. That, and the fact those people might actually be ghosts now.
Whatever the reason, art director and designer Kevin Weir has riffed on their nightmarish qualities brilliantly, creating some spellbinding GIFs to give some vintage snaps an even creepier vibe.
Civil wars, baseball games, giant moustaches – nothing is safe from the playful mind of Weir, whose brilliance has helped achieve the sort of collection we’d love to see hung up on iPads and taken to museums across the world - a good idea for enticing future generations of children about their history, perhaps.
Though perhaps the highest compliment we could pay these animated treats is that they might as well have some from the minds of Python.
Witty, wonderful and weird, they're unlike anything we've laid eyes on before.
