When the Mercury Music Prize nominations were announced last week, many were surprised to see Steve Mason not lining up alongside his Domino Records stablemates Arctic Monkeys, Jon Hopkins and Villagers - and it would have been fully deserved, following the success of the critically-acclaimed album Monkey Minds In The Devil's Time.
Nonetheless, arbitrary musical prizes aside, we're delighted to be able to exclusively show the video for his new single, Fire, which is released on November 4th. Musically deft, and almost evocative of LCD Soundsystem, the accompanying video is an intriguing affair, featuring exploding televisions and lots of mirrors.
The track is taken from the current album, his second under his own name - coming after his fantastic work fronting The Beta Band - which was released in March and demonstrates a political outlook which few artists are brave enough to take on in these times.

As Content Director of Shortlist, Marc likes nothing more than to compile endless lists of an evening by candlelight. He started out life as a movie writer for numerous (now defunct) magazines and soon found himself online - editing a gaggle of gadget sites, including TechRadar, Digital Camera World and Tom's Guide UK. At Shortlist you'll find him mostly writing about movies and tech, so no change there then.
