We've got a riddle for you: what starts with two, gains four, then eight, then 12, adds rumbles, then adds some weird motion detection, then gets a screen?
Well we didn't say it was a good riddle.
Monitors of all things techy, GadgetLove.com has documented the evolution of the modern video game controller in fine Gif form. Watch as Nintendo's early creations of Gunpei Yoki shift to eventually become the screen-wielding Wii U monster, contrasted with the muted shifts of PlayStation's Dualshock evolution. There's even less going on in the small shifts of the Xbox controllers, shrinking in size before moving a few details around.
Who knows - a few more console generations and we could be playing Fifa with our brains.

As Content Director of Shortlist, Marc likes nothing more than to compile endless lists of an evening by candlelight. He started out life as a movie writer for numerous (now defunct) magazines and soon found himself online - editing a gaggle of gadget sites, including TechRadar, Digital Camera World and Tom's Guide UK. At Shortlist you'll find him mostly writing about movies and tech, so no change there then.
