Exactly one year ago to the day, Donald Trump was elected President of the United States. One year. It honestly feels like about 15. I am very tired.
In this new era of Things Just Always Being Bad, we’ve become somewhat immune to President Trump’s moronic words and actions. Not a day goes by when he doesn’t either say or do something stupid or hateful, so it just feels like the norm.
The President’s tweeting false information about a terrorist attack? Normal. The President’s having an argument with a dead war vet’s widow? Normal. The President’s threatening to get into a world-ending nuclear war with North Korea? Normal. Nothing can surprise us anymore.
We’ve become thick-skinned and battle-hardened, resigned to the world slowly crumbling around us while we go about our day-to-day lives - but hey, at least we have memes!
Memes to show our despair! Memes to soak up our sadness like sponges! What would we do without memes!
Over in America, people are using memes to show how much they’ve changed in the year since Trump was elected. This also happens to coincide with the local elections that happened in the US yesterday, hence the meme becoming: “Me on election day 2016 vs. Me on election day 2017”.
Here is an example, using Macklemore and Macklemore’s dad, Toby Flenderson from The Office.

Gettit! Because a year ago we were all young and fresh faced and bad at rap! And now we look like shit! Fun!
Here are a few more of the best offerings:
Nazi-punching Indiana Jones:
Ellen Ripley:
Eminem and old, racist Eminem:
A very relatable bear:
“Let’s go to the Winchester, have a nice cold pint, and wait for all of this to blow over”:
Michael’s mid-life crisis in The Good Place:
Elton John and his son, Justice Beaver:
Leslie Knope:
Neville Longbottom, feat. A Frog:
Charlize Theron/Furiosa:
That fucked up Jesus painting:
So there you go. If there’s one lesson you can take from all this, it’s that life is terrible and we’re all going to die miserable, so we may as well spend our remaining days staring at stupid memes.
Bye.
