Biker fails to spot open manhole

Onlookers "laughed despite the injuries"

Biker fails to spot open manhole

A Chinese motorbike rider learned a painful lesson after driving directly into an open manhole in Changchun, capital of northeast China's Jilin Province.

The rider, Zhang Bo, was driving along the road when he failed to spot that a manhole in front of him was missing its cover. He drove directly into it, causing him to thrown 1 meter away while his bike dropped into the hole.

Motorist Hui Shi, who'd been following behind said: "Car wheels were driving either side of the hole - but the motorbike was in the middle of the road and it just dropped into it. He went head over heels and everyone laughed, despite the injuries."

Bit harsh, particularly when one learns that after the accident Zhang was rushed to hospital where he was found to be suffering from a broken jaw and fractured skull. A police spokesperson commented: "The manhole cover had been stolen to melt down for scrap. It's an increasing problem".
