We give up.
Honestly, nothing is sacred anymore. In what’s pretty much the most tragic food science story of the day, the World Health Organisation (WHO) has revealed that bacon, our beloved (and God damned delicious) bacon, could cause cancer.
Yup, The Big C and as such, bacon, along with other processed meats like sausage, is going to be added to a big list of carcinogens (things that cause cancer like smoking and asbestos) to serve as a warning.
The findings come after a crack squad of super scientists from 10 separate nations (including the UK), discovered that processed meats (anything made using smoking, curing, salting or other chemical techniques) are a lot more dangerous than we thought.
According to the boffins, meat could be responsible for around 150,000 deaths a year in the UK – spurring on awful diseases like bowel cancer.
The experts have even gone as far as to suggest that we cut processed meats from our diets entirely, and that bacon and other delicious meats should come with ‘cigarette packet’ style warning labels.
