Adele's 21 Now The Biggest-Selling Album of Millennium

Yes, it's only 15 years young, but we're far enough into this millennium to start taking a look back, and it turns out a little-known singer by the name of Adele has done pretty well so far.

The Official Charts Company has released a list of the 50 biggest-selling albums of the 15-years-young millennium so far and it throws up a few intriguing insights.

Female singers dominate, with Adele's second record, 21, comfortably heading up the list with 4.7m UK sales, way ahead of the late, great Amy Winehouse's Back To Black on 3.6m. The reign of terror that was James Blunt's Back To Bedlam looms over us in third place with 3.3m, while Leona Lewis' Spirit and Dido's No Angel round off the top 5 with 3.13m and 3.08m sales respectively.

The most consistent artists are Robbie Williams and his sometime band Take That with four entries each (technically five for Robbie seeing as he sings on Take That's Progress). Bandwise, a Liverpool four-piece who we're tipping for great things called The Beatles have the highest entry with their 1 compilation, while Coldplay rack up the most entries with three records featuring.

Soberingly, Duffy's Rockferry sits at 29; just what were the great British public thinking in 2008? Meanwhile, Foregone Conclusion support act Texas sit at 42 with their Greatest Hits.

And, brilliantly, Craig David creeps his way in at 48 with Born To Do It, which gives us a reason to post this video. Check the whole Top 50 below.
