The burger’s reign as king of internet foods may be over, with a totally unexpected triple-headed threat to its greasy throne coming from Up North.
If image-collecting site Pinterest’s list of top searches of 2015 is anything to go by, 2016 will be the year that classic British grub fills both our guts and our iPhone photo streams. The site, which gets more than three million items ‘pinned’ to it every day in the UK, has revealed that the three biggest search terms of the year in our country, things that we searched for more than anything else in the whole entire world, have been... pork pies, toad in the hole and Lancashire hotpot.
Yep, the people of the United Kingdom wanted to see pics of these Northern faves far more than images of the Kardashians, Tom Hardy, James Bond and even Star Wars.
Could this mean we’ll be seeing wallet-bashing posho pork pie restaurants popping up on every street corner? Can we expect trendy east Londoners to be adding filters to their #hotpots? Is toad in the hole cool now? We’re just don’t know. But we’re sure of one thing – what we’ll be eating for lunch today.
