"Homer’s Coming Back for Seconds": The Simpsons Movie 2 is finally happening
In the words of Homer, "I wish God were alive to see this"

The Simpsons are returning to the big screen after a 20-year break from cinemas. The world’s favourite dysfunctional family is finally getting a sequel. The Simpsons Movie 2 is officially in the works at Disney’s 20th Century Studios, with a release date set for the 23rd of July, 2027, so it's only a couple of years away.
That means in just under two years, Homer, Marge, Bart, Lisa, and Maggie will once again grace the silver screen, this time filling a hole in Disney’s release slate left by an untitled Marvel project that’s been quietly yeeted off the calendar. So if you were expecting a superhero blockbuster between Avengers: Doomsday in 2026 and Avengers: Secret Wars in 2027, it’s going to be doughnuts, not capes.
There is still no news regarding the plot, but Disney has dropped a teaser poster showing a pink frosted doughnut being grabbed, along with the tagline: “Homer’s coming back for seconds.”
No director has been confirmed yet, but fans will be hoping for the return of The Simpsons Movie veteran David Silverman, who helmed the original in 2007, the one where Springfield got domed thanks to Homer’s eco-crimes and a pig called Spider-Pig.

That first film was a surprise box office juggernaut, pulling in $536 million worldwide on a $75 million budget at a time when TV shows rarely made the jump to cinemas, especially ones still actively airing.
Now, two decades later, the sequel feels less like a cash-in and more like a celebration. The Simpsons is deep into its 37th season (renewed through to season 40, naturally), still dishing out weekly absurdity and accurate prophecies. What’s changed is how people are watching it.
According to showrunner Matt Selman, the arrival of The Simpsons through streaming, with it remaining one of the best shows on Disney+, gave the show a streaming-fuelled second wind. “Being on Disney+ has been somewhat rejuvenating for us,” he told Variety. “Not that we realised we needed rejuvenation, but we appreciate it.” Kids aren’t just watching after school anymore, they’re binging seasons like it’s a cartoon religion

For now, details are thin, no official title, no plot leaks, no clue whether the dome makes a comeback, but one thing’s clear: Springfield is heading back to Hollywood, and we’re buzzing for it
