For some reason, Brits get the most sleep on a Tuesday

Tuesday is a nothing day. 

Monday is the worst, Wednesday is the godawful 'hump' day, Thursday is the new Friday, Friday is Friday, Saturday is just excellent and Sunday is a day of rest and eating.

Tuesday has nothing to offer - until now. 

A ten year study of 5,000 Brits has revealed shown that the nation collectively get their best night's sleep (lots of REM, deep state sleep, that kinda stuff) on a Tuesday night. While we sleep longer on the weekend, it was the night after the 'nothing day' of Tuesday that resulted in the most restful, revitalising kip.

Finnish analytics company Firstbeat supplied 4,866 men and women heart monitors, worn for three consecutive days in a week over a ten year period. The volunteers supplemented this heart rate data with details of how rested or stressed they were after sleeping. Tuesday night came up trumps... but the researchers don't really know why.

"There is a big difference between rest and restoration," Simon Shepard, of Optima-Life who supplied the heart monitors for the study, told the Daily Mail. "People rest for a lot longer during the weekend but perhaps they are out partying and letting their hair down and their bodies don’t physiologically recover."

The worst nights of the week for restorative sleep? Friday and Saturday night - thanks to all our energetic socialising (hint: booze). 

So there you have it. Tuesday now has a purpose, largely because it doesn't really do anything. Keep Tuesday bland - it's good for you.
