Although we’ve long since left our childhood admiration for crooks behind – we thought they were all Robin Hood-type characters, ok? – we still have an odd respect for those criminals who are, without fear of contradiction, plain stupid.
Take this incident that occurred in London three months ago. A would-be hoodlum attempted to rob a branch of Halifax in the City, demanding £700,000 from the cashier. So far, so routine.
However, instead of handing over his swag bag in which to deposit the loot, the incompetent felon gave the cashier his gun. Wack, wack, and indeed oops.
By now the security shutters had firmly come down, so all the daft robber could do was peg it on a bank worker’s bike. At least he managed to thieve something, eh?
Sorry, serious business. Keep to usual police procedure. Have a look at the above CCTV image that has just been issued and if he's your next-door neighbour alert the authorities. And whatever you do, certainly don’t approach this man: he may try and give you the coat off his back, the phone in his pocket etc etc.
