Footballer Sent Off For Flashing Referee

hero1.jpg

We've had Maradona at Farnborough and a Macclesfield fan paying £10,000 for 10 minutes - and the lower leagues of football are just not stopping with crazy stories.

This time, it's the tale of a AFC Croydon Athletic player Louis Blake receiving a red card for flashing the referee in an FA Cup Preliminary round game.

In his defence, the award seems very harsh indeed. Having come on to the field as a substitute - his debut appearance for the club, no less - he played 20 minutes before the referee noticed that his undershorts did not match his team's kit colour. Having been asked to change, Blake was forced to simply remove them, in the absence of an alternative pair.

When asked to 'prove' that he had removed them, Blake pulled down the top of his shorts to demonstrate - and the ref promptly sent him off.

The player commented: ‘I was gobsmacked, I was shocked and I was angry. I just pulled my shorts forward a bit to show him there was nothing there and he gave me a red. How else am I meant to prove I’ve got nothing on down there?'

His side lost 6-2 to Colliers Wood, so they won't be in the drawers - sorry - draw for the next round anyway.
