Micah Richards's Guilty Pleasures

micah richards.jpg

Thanks to a pesky bout of knee knack, Manchester City and England defender Micah Richards has plenty of time on his hands at the moment. We decided the only honourable thing to do would be to quiz him on his guilty pleasures – of which there are many by the look of things.

Micah is an ambassador for Alive & Kicking, which provides footballs for children in Kenya, Zambia and Ghana. As part of the Alive & Kicking Christmas appeal, John Lewis is selling an exclusive range of footballs, Balls to Africa, and for every ball bought, another will be donated to a school of youth group in Africa. Visit johnlewis.com for more.

Home Alone. Especially at this time of year. I love it. I watch it every year. It’s a great Christmas film. My mates take the mick - they say it’s a kid’s film, but it’s great. Macaulay Culkin is wicked in it. The way he gives all the adults the run around. And the baddies are fantastic too. I watched it when I was a kid, and I’ve got it on DVD now. Yeah, we watch it every year in the Richards household. It’s a tradition now!

Catchphrase! I watch it all the time on Challenge TV, and tape it too. I play with all my mates. I’m the reigning champ. If you want to take me on, you know where I am!

JLS. Yeah, I like them. Considering where they came from (The X Factor) to where they are now they’ve done really well. Would I play their music in the changing room? No! What are you trying to do to me? No, that would be Drake and other cool stuff!

Carly Rae Jepsen’s Call Me Maybe. It’s great pop music, isn’t it? It’s fun! A top video too. It’s the kind of music I would sing in the shower. And no, not in the changing room.

Chinese food. Absolutely. Ribs. Sweet and sour chicken. Egg fried rice. Crispy duck pancakes… I could go on. No, I don’t have it every night! Are you trying to get me in trouble? No, once a month. A special treat.

All them celeb magazines. When my sister comes down to stay I might pick them up if she leaves them around the house. I like to see who’s going out with whom. You wouldn’t catch me buying them in a newsagent’s though. It’s strictly if I see them lying around.

I go on Facebook quite a lot. I like using my private page, not the one that everyone can see. It’s good for keeping up with all my old school friends. I don’t get involved that much to be honest – it’s more about seeing what everyone is up to.

I don’t think I’ve read any books since school, so that’s about nine years ago. I get bored too easily. I used to hate reading books at school. I especially used to hate it when we were made to read out loud in class. I used to pretend I was dyslexic. Come to think of it, I probably am a bit dyslexic when it comes to reading. What did I read when I was at school? I honestly can’t remember. That’s right, I’ve erased that period from my memory!
