Does This Fan Theory Explain The Origin of Chris Pratt's Jurassic World character?

jworld.jpg

Fear not - there are as many spoilers concerning Jurassic World in this post as there are real dinosaurs in the film. Which is none.

And no, that's not a spoiler. That's just common sense.

A delightful theory on the origins of Chris Pratt's Jurassic World character Owen has emerged from the depths of Reddit. In a discussion of fan theories that have blown minds, Redditor farceur318 offered the following gem:

In the upcoming Jurassic World, Chris Pratt's character, a velociraptor trainer, is the chubby kid that Grant frightens at the beginning of the original film. Grant tells hims [sp] to "have a little respect" for raptors, and in the trailers for Jurassic World, Pratt's character describes his relationships with the parks raptors as "a relationship based on respect".

You remember the chubby kid right? Bad t-shirt. Oversized cap. Arrogant dismissal of velociraptors as nothing more than "turkeys"? Could he be the young kid set to become the hero of Jurassic World?

Now, as man experienced in the art of training animals, Owen is bound to be familiar with the importance of respect - particularly if that animal is a prehistoric killer with vast claws. But the theory gains some delicious weight when one marries up Dr Alan Grant's (Sam Neil) vivid depiction of raptors hunting in a trio echoed in the movements of Owen's herd of dinos.

/Film journalist Peter Sciretta was so struck by the theory that he asked Jurassic World director Colin Trevorrow to provide insight.

"I’m not sure I want to answer because the speculation is so much fun," said Trevorrow. "Let’s not kill the fun."

Good for you Trevorrow.
