Washington McNugget sells on ebay for £5,000

People will sell anything on ebay. From Michael Jackson's underwear to a cornflake shaped like Illinois, there's a myriad of odd-ball treasures waiting to be discovered.

Now added to that list is the chicken McNugget, which bears a resemblance to former president George Washington (pictured above and below).

The nugget was found by Rebekah Speight of Dakota City and was sold on ebay for over £5,000 ($8,100), when the auction ended on Monday to an unnamed bidder.

Speight discovered the nugget three years ago, after taking her children to McDonald's. She was about to throw the final nugget away when she spotted its likeness and stashed it in her freezer (the obvious thing to do).

According to the Sioux City Journal in Iowa, USA, Speight sold it to raise $15,000 and send 50 children to summer church camp in Sioux City.

eBay had temporarily taken down the auction last month because it violated rules regulating expired food. Speight later received an email saying the site was "willing to make exceptions to help your cause."

On the auction page for the McNugget Speight wrote: "By bidding on this rare President George Washington Chicken McNugget...not only will you have an opportunity to be the new owner of this rare find, but you will be investing in the lives of children."
