Twitter's review of the year

This year has seen a massive rise in the popularity of Twitter changing it from a tool for smug big city-dwelling marketing folk to a tool for smug people in general.

It's the month of lists, which means that Twitter has also chirped in (get it??) with their review of 2011. Unsurprisingly, Charlie Sheen dominates. He was the most mentioned actor of the year, while #tigerblood was the second most popular hashtag.

More surprisingly, Thor was the most tweeted about film of the year, beating Twilight and Harry Potter instalments while Macaulay Culkin was an unpredictable hit, as the second most mentioned actor.

Most tweeted about event of the year? Bin Laden's death? The Japan tsumani? Ermmm, try the MTV Video Music Awards.
