The Tick is officially dead: won't be landing on Netflix or anywhere else after all

Cult fave has not been saved from the chopping block

17 June 2019

Sad news for fans of The Tick – it has definitely been cancelled, and it doesn’t look like it’s going to be released elsewhere, either.

Showrunner Ben Edlund tweeted the news at the end of last week.

“After much door-knocking we have found no new home for the Tick series in this current market,” he wrote. “#SaveTheTick & #LunaTickArmy I'm sorry we could not reward your glorious support with better news. I am so proud of the show, of the cast and crew and writers, and so warmed by the fans.”

Edlund had been looking for a new home for the show following two seasons at Amazon. It followed a normal man, Arthur, as he became embroiled in the war between good and evil. Played by Peter Serafinowicz, it was the second time the character had made it to the small screen – FOX also attempted a series, which only lasted one season.

Edlund has said that he’s still looking for “other opportunities to continue this story with the cast”, so there is a chance that we might see the show come back in a different form.

Film site SlashFilm suggests the show might return to its roots, becoming a “comic series that picks up where the show has left off” – so we might be seeing something a bit different.
