The ShortListen: Blacktop Queen (no. 327)

Turbo-charged indie from new LA trio

The ShortListen: Blacktop Queen (no. 327)

Who? Blacktop Queen

What’s the story? With the likes of Kings of Leon offering diminishing returns on each successive album and The Killers pretty much absent for the last four years, there's a big space for a new anthemic band to take over the airwaves. And new contenders to the throne are LA Echo Park trio Blacktop Queen who've just unveiled the roaring anthem Blackout. There's a touch of Cage the Elephant and even Foo Fighters in there for good measure together with a chorus built for screaming out at a grimy rock club after a few too many snakebites. And you can't say fairer than that.

For fans of: Kings of Leon, Cage the Elephant

In three words: Big meaty anthem
