Samsung's bendable 4KTV

HD. 4K. Curved. Back lit. OLED. Anyone looking to invest in a new TV requires a fairly substantial phrase book navigate the terms banded about by manufacturers. Samsung has just added an understandable-if-surprising one to the list: bendable.

The snappily-named UN78S9B 4KTV (we're pretty sure the 'B' stands for 'bending') is the Korean manufacturer's first commercial television that offers both conventional flat screen and curved screen viewing options... on a 78-inch display.

Curved screens aim to give viewers an improved angle from which to see all areas of a picture - the logic being that if you sit in front of a flat 78-inch display and the corners of an image will be much further away than the centre of the image. However, the major downside to a curved display is that the optimal viewing angle can't be seen by a very large number of people.

At the press of a button (one hopefully marked "TRANSFORM"), Samsung's latest 4KTV can warp from flat to curved, motorised arms at the sides of the screen tilting the display.

First shown off as a concept at this year's CES conference, this commercial version offers a 3840 x 2160 resolution, UHD dimming and a Crystal Black panel. The UN78S9B is set to go on sale in South Korea from today, with an international release yet to be confirmed.
