“What the” indeed.

Modern art piece? Confused trainer? This seemingly MOMA-endorsed shoe has been fashioned from 18 different editions of Nike’s KD7, the titular shoe line of NBA star Kevin Wayne Durant.

Taking its name from the tagline used by Nike Skateboarding footwear designer James Arizumi back in 2007, and its cues from all previous incarnations of the KD7, the trainer even manages to pack in previous finishing touches: lightning-inspired graphics, glow-in-the-dark heels and “egg nog” sock liners - you know, the important stuff.

Big, colourful, full of pointless effects that don’t do much but look really cool? It’s basically the sartorial equivalent of when the Power Rangers turn into the Megazord.

Due to launch alongside a matching t-shirt at select Nike basketball retailers on 20 June, at least prospective wearers can be assured the name of the shoe will be echoed around any public space they strut into.
