The Corby Trouser Press. The Melton Mowbray pork pie. The Mini. The list of English-made greats is about to grow a little longer, thanks to the efforts of New Balance.
The Massachusetts-based trainer brand has turned to its Flimby factory (just west of the Lake District) to create the M1500 'Made in England' model - one of the most attractive trainers you'll likely find scuffing through the leaves this autumn.
A luxurious blend of suede, leather and 'ripstop' material, the M1500 sits astride an ENCAP sole unit (a supportive, durable rim of polyurethane with an inner core of soft EVA material). Three colour options have been designed by the Filmby factory - an autumnal mix of red, green and black, a burgandy, black and white number and an altogether cooler blend of grey, black and white.
Currently available from Commonn for £115, it's the best thing out of Filmby since... well, we're not altogether sure.

As Content Director of Shortlist, Marc likes nothing more than to compile endless lists of an evening by candlelight. He started out life as a movie writer for numerous (now defunct) magazines and soon found himself online - editing a gaggle of gadget sites, including TechRadar, Digital Camera World and Tom's Guide UK. At Shortlist you'll find him mostly writing about movies and tech, so no change there then.
